ISW Burger King of the Ring Preview for this Saturday night in CT!

by on July 20, 2011

Ben Gordon of the CSTC Network sent this along for this weekend’s big event in Danbury, CT. If in the area this weekend, Beyond Wrestling and Inter Species Wrestling will be holding a double header in a day full of independent wrestling. Check the end of the post for more info.

Besides the Burger King of the Ring tournament itself, perhaps the most notable match on the show features a tribute to the late Larry Sweeney in a reunion of the original F.I.S.T. of Gran Akuma & Icarus, vintage Chikara tecnico Jolly Roger, one of the best talents to ever come out of Chikara in Hallowicked, and the one night only return of 2.0.

As if this week in wrestling hasn’t been exciting enough with WWE firing on all cylanders, I’m just as excited, maybe a little bit even moreso, for this coming Saturday evening in Danbury, CT. Why? Inter Species Wrestling is returning to the US for what could possibly be their biggest show ever, “Burger King of the Ring.” I’m sure there’s plenty out there asking “What the hell is Inter Species Wrestling and why should I give a damn?” Well, I’d be happy to answer both of those! Inter Species Wrestling (ISW) is a niche promotion based out of Montreal that has a universe where anything can, and probably has, happened. It’s not just man vs man in ISW, there’s man vs. woman, man vs. animal, man vs. zombie, man vs. Cthulu/Lawyer…..the possibilities of what you could see in ISW are endless. But it’s not a place where the sideshow freak attractions roam. Not even close. Wrestling is 1/3rd of ISW’s name, and ISW brings a tremendous amount of quality professional wrestling to the table. Some of the biggest names in independent wrestling grace the ISW ring on a regular basis. Names like Colt Cabana, Kevin Steen, El Generico, Mike Quackenbush and others have at one point in time (or several points) done battle in Inter Species Wrestling, and at Burger King of the Ring, many familiar names and faces will do battle including Eddie Kingston, Pinkie Sanchez, Player Uno and a ton more.

So what makes “Burger King of the Ring” the potential biggest show in ISW history? Let’s look at the card.

Here it is in Text Form:

Burger King of the Ring Tournament

ROUND 1 – Dan Barry vs. Frankie Arion

ROUND 1 – Pinkie Sanchez vs. Player Uno

ROUND 1 – Bastian Snow vs. El Hijo Del Bamboo

ROUND 1 – Izzie Deadyet vs. Lloyd Cthulowitz

ISW’s first ever singles elimination tournament truly spotlights what ISW is all about. The winner of the tournament is granted a shot at the ISW championship as well as a Burger King extra value meal of their choosing. You’ve got two matches that pit man against man and two matches that pit creature against creature.

Dan Barry, the “King of Dan Barry, CT” is a ten year veteran of the indy wrestling circuit and will use every dirty trick in the book if he has to.  Frankie Arion, one of the most criminally underrated wrestlers on the indy scene, will be looking to make a splash by going 2-0 after defeating Dan Barry in a Border Jam “Winner Gets The Bed” match that must be seen to be believed.

Pinkie Sanchez has been tearing up the indy scene as of late and personally I know he’s incredibly amped to bring his uniqueness and allegedly well over 400 STD’s to Danbury.  Player Uno is in the best shape of his life and is looking to use a win in the BKOTR tournament to get a shot at the championship he never lost, the Interspecies Wrestling Championship, currently held by Giant Tiger, the most vile wrestler I’ve ever seen wear tights made out of raw meat (buy the Boner Jam DVD at to see what I’m talking about.)

Bastian Snow, the “Catch as Catch Can Crustacean,” is looking to get out from under the sea and into a Whopper.  El Hijo Del Bamboo is the cutest, cuddliest, most bloodthirsty animal on the ISW roster and looks to hug/crush the competition.

Izzie Deadyet, our resident zombie, will look to get a side of brains with his Burger King extra value meal. And finally, Lloyd Cthuluwitz, a relative newcomer to ISW, looks to avenge his loss to Izzie Deadyet by using his combination of sneaky lawyer tricks and Cthulu strength and go all the way to the top of ISW.

Only one can be crowned the Burger King of the Ring. Who will come out on top?

SWEET n’ SOUR SPECIAL – Gran Akuma/Icarus/Jolly Roger vs. Hallowicked/Jagged/Shane Matthews

*After the passing of “Sweet and Sour” Larry Sweeney, some of his closest friends in the wrestling business wanted to do something special. When they approached ISW and asked if they could put on a trios match in the memory of Larry Sweeney, we knew it would be something incredibly special, heartfelt and memorable. Team FIST reunites for the first time in over a hear to team with the original party pirate against the unique trio of Hallowicked and 2.0, and their hearts will be on their sleeves for this one.

*This will be the first of its kind in the United States. Thousands of Lego blocks have already been donated by fans to ISW specifically for the purposes of this grudge match. When Shitty, the pet of ISW Other Champ Moohammad the Terrorist Cow, piledrove ISW’s femme fatale onto a pile of Lego’s, this immediately became personal. ISW fans will be bringing more of these dangerous plastic blocks and some of the crazier ones will be building odd weapons out of them.  The bad blood between Addy Starr and Shitty will be spilled over a pile of mangled Lego blocks this Saturday.

DAVID vs. GOLIATH – Twiggy vs. Eddie “Kingman” Kingston

Twiggy, the #1 contender to Giant Tiger’s ISW Championship, has never been one to back down from a fight. So when GT sent his muscle, the always dangerous and hard hitting Eddie Kingston on a mission to soften up his challenger while he ducked him, Twiggy never said die. Although short in stature, Twiggy’s heart is bigger than anyone’s and he will need it to survive his opponent at BKOTR.

I’m incredibly excited for what’s shaping up to be one of the most unique and fun wrestling shows of the year. I may be helping out ISW in the ways of promotion, but I’m a wrestling fan first and foremost and I wouldn’t be spending all of this time writing this if I didn’t believe in its potential to be something incredibly awesome.   ISW is one of those things that deserves to be seen by more people, and I hope that after reading this, you’re going to come to the Heirloom Arts Theater in Danbury, CT this Saturday, plunk down your $15 and check it out for yourself.

Hey guys. This show sounds really interesting as I like to read about Chikara talent’s exploits outside that promotion and it’s cool to see what else is out there. I picked up Boner Jam essentially for free this week with Smart Mark Video and I am looking forward to watching it but got to catch up on Chikara first. This sounds like a good time and I’d like to read a review or hear an Gter the show podcast.
