7/19 Match of the Day: 1-2-3 Kid vs Bob Cook

by on July 19, 2011

Yeah, yeah…I know we just did an entire week dedicated to the 1-2-3 Kid a month or so ago. However, we’re delving back into the mid-1990’s run of Mr. Sean Waltman for a very specific and very happy reason: Bob Cook accepted my Facebook friend request over the weekend. It legitimately might be on the top ten list of “great things that have happened to Tom in 2011” (and this has been a tremendous year for me).

In honor of this momentous occasion, we go back to the March 4, 1995 edition of WWF Superstars, as the Kid faced Bob Cook in a lovely little bout. It’s not very long, but Cook showed why he was a tremendous opponent for Kid’s flashy offense. In fact, there’s a lost match between these two from 1992, as Cook wrestled the Kid in his World Championship Wrestling tryout match and (as the story goes) they tore the house down. If someone is reading this and has access to WWE’s tape library, please search for that match and throw it on the WWE 24/7 on-demand service if WCW filmed it. Seriously, in under three minutes, Cook got to bust out his awesome punches and takes all of Kid’s big moves perfectly. It’s a perfect little TV match.
