The Five Most Homophobic Moments In Wrestling History (It’s Not All Goldust, I Swear)

We’ll it seems Charles Montgomery Punk is in a little bit of trouble for calling some homo with a faux-hawk in Australia a homo with a faux-hawk. Even though we now live in a time where the saying “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” is null and void, it could be and has been a lot worse as far as homophobia in a past-time where grown men in their underwear grapple goes.

5. Adrian Adonis’ Florist Mr. Bruce

Instead of telling Adrian that he was getting out of shape, the higher ups in the WWF decided to make him a flamboyant gay character. The sprinkles on the shit sundae was they gave him his own talk show, called The Flower Shop. On one installment, the audience of Tuesday Night Titans met his personal florist, Mr. Bruce. The only way they could have made Mr. Bruce gayer was if he fell dead on the floor from pneumonia related to AIDS at the end of the segment.

4. Rico and Charlie Haas

After Billy and Chuck split, Rico became a singles competitor, who had Miss Jackie as a valet. Imagine it as Adrian Street only with an American Gladiators champion. Anyways, he was as flaming as Koko B. Ware’s parrot Frankie at the time, and for some reason, they put the newly face Charlie Haas as an odd couple tag team, because gay people and straight people are natural enemies.

3. Orlando Jordan in TNA

He squirted icing on himself and it looked like cum. Since all gay people do that randomly.

2. Billy and Chuck’s Commitment Ceremony

Probably the most well known on the list. I won’t harp on it for too long, but it involves everyone’s favorite voodoo pimp, The Godfather trying to curb homosexuality with prostitution and Billy and Chuck frantically saying that it was a publicity stunt and nothing else. The worst part is GLAAD supported the angle and it gave WWE some press as well, until the clusterfuck of a wedding that involved Eric Bischoff doing a 2015 Biff Tannen impression and hefty jersey wearing Samoans beating women.

1. Jerry Lawler’s Promo On Goldust

Goldust has been involved in massive amounts of homophobia, whether it be with Ahmed Johnson or Scott Hall. One moment trumps all the rest though. Jerry Lawler had a match against Goldust in the 1998 King of the Ring, and to hype it up, they had Lawler cut a minute promo, where he proceeded to call Rhodes a “flaming fag”, called his daughter a slut and said his dad didn’t love him. You know what, that Andy Kaufman fella may have been onto something after all.
