6/30 Match of the Day: El Generico vs Max Boyer

by on June 30, 2011

Today’s Match of the Day comes from the International Wrestling Syndicate’s Hardcore Heat 2006 event on August 26, 2006 , as Max Boyer faced El Generico.

Boyer is a guy I always dug a lot more than I thought I would on the surface. At the time he broke out, I really thought he was the best of the Dynamite Kid-influenced guys on the indies and the visually closest (the socks were a nice touch). There wasn’t a lot of color to him, but he was a lot smoother at the mechanics than most at his level. Generico’s best attribute is bringing the third dimension and making a match dramatic, which was one of Boyer’s missing puzzle pieces. Together, it was a lovely little combination of attributes. To add to the uniqueness, Generico was the heel here, which is a rare site from a guy who a lot will argue has been one of the best good guys in wrestling for a while. Plus, this was a lot more “brawly” (I know, not a real word) than you’d think and they pulled out some tricks you wouldn’t normally imagine from either guy (for instance, Generico pulls guard very early in the bout).
