This Week Has Been Rated PG-13 – 6/15 Match of the Day: PG-13 & Frog vs Jung Dragons

by on June 15, 2011

Today’s Match of the Day comes from the April 22, 2000 edition of WCW Worldwide. PG-13 had gotten WCW contracts (Jamie Dundee, in his Highspots shoot interview, credited it to a chance meeting with Jeff Jarrett), but had been signed during a point of creative uncertainty, as this was the point where Vince Russo was let go, Kevin Sullivan took the helm, then Vince Russo was brought back with Eric Bischoff, leaving PG-13 to become the kings of the WCW B-Shows.

We ended up with matches like these, where PG-13 were put in with the Jung Dragons (radically different wrestlers) because they were short and skinny. What stood out about this match is not just that PG-13 hung with the Dragons athletically, but that JC Ice was still able to do JC Ice schtick within the million moves a minute style of the WCW cruiserweight spotfest madness. Ice’s usual karate poses are hilarious after avoiding some Kaz Hayashi kicks.

As for The Frog, all I know is that he was a North Carolina guy who snuck in through the back door because of Shane Helms and Shannon Moore and only ever showed up when PG-13 needed a third guy to work with Three Count and the Jung Dragons. He’s a funny-lookin’ fellow, but I can’t say much more about him than that.
