MIKE & TOM FLASHBACK: The Best of Leonard F. Chikarason

by on May 31, 2011

Leonard F. Chikarason is a really good dude. He’s the former Director of Fun for our friends over at Chikara, he’s done some great commentary for various independent promotions in America and most importantly: he’s a first-class human being. He’s been nothing but completely supportive for our website, he’s been a fun, humorous, insightful guest on the podcast and he’s one of the best people I’ve personally met through the website thus far. Today’s Mike & Tom podcast flashback is in honor of Lenny, who we owe a lot to and will undoubtedly be a regular once again after we start recording again in a couple of weeks! For now, enjoy his previous appearances on the show!

Episode 28: iLenny – First, Leonard F. Chikarason joins us to take a brief look at some of the more heralded teams in King of Trios, as well as the big Dragon Gate USA shows in Atlanta (for which he’ll be there doing commentary), the 1994 WCW Blogject on the website, Red’s hairstyles throughout the years, and more! Lenny was one of the most fun, easy-to-talk-to guests we’ve had on the show and he’ll for sure be back in the VERY near-future to talk King of Trios and whatever else comes up in a longer segment. Then, America’s favorite Canadian Travis McNeill comes on the line to go down the lineup for Ring of Honor’s iPPV’s in Atlanta at Center Stage this weekend. We talk about all of the younger talent getting a shot to shine in ROH, express outrage about Slim J not being on the shows, and more before getting down to the real business: what happened to Weasel after Saved by the Bell: The New Class? Mike drops a HUGE knowledge bomb during this segment, plus we give our thoughts on the most recent edition of How I Met Your Mother!

Episode 31 – Are You Afraid of the Donst? – First, BDK member Tim Donst joins us to talk about his team with Jakob Hammermeier & Delirious for the tournament, how they compare to his previous King of Trios teams, how he fell in love with wrestling, putting together his dream Nintendo 64 King of Trios team, wrestling Daniel Bryan, and more! Tim was also kind enough to share his memories and thoughts on the unfortunate passing of his friend Larry Sweeney and we’d like to publically thank him for sharing that with us. (Note: as long as schedules line up right, Tim will be a regularly-scheduled guest on the show from here on out, as this is one of our favorite show segments ever.) Then, if our website had a best friend, it’d be Leonard F. Chikarason and he’s here to run down the King of Trios festivities with us! We talk about all of the standout events going down this weekend, from Rey de Voladores to the 1-2-3 Kid wrestling Hakushi to the multiple candidates for winning the tournament and everything in-between! Plus, we talked about Dave Meltzer’s pet names for people, Tim Stack’s legendary acting career, gambling on professional wrestling, bumping into wrestling fans outside of wrestling and a whole lot more!

Episode 35- Standby: Chikarason, Naylor, ACTION!  We were joined by both Leonard F. Chikarason and Rob Naylor for an hour and a half of everything imaginable! A few of the tens (if not hundred-plus) topics brought up include a spoken history of professional wrestling in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania area, how Chikarason might be the Where’s Waldo of Extreme Championship Wrestling, Tiny “Zeus” Lister’s incredible career (as told by Tiny “Zeus” Lister), HC Loc, Rob’s love for Hamburg, Pennsylvania, the next AJ & Daniels, the death of the spinoff sitcom, a mini-retrospective on the first class of the Ring of Honor Wrestling School, wrestlers who look like your grandma, and Leonard dispells a fifteen-year-old urban legend about Stevie Richards!
