5/24 Match of the Day: Kronik vs The Natural Born Thrillers

by on May 24, 2011

The last few months of World Championship Wrestling have grown this grand mythology about it, where it was this group of young guys who were left the pieces of the old-timers’ destruction of the company and were turning the company around due to motivation from the news that WCW was being sold to Fusient Media Ventures and Eric Bischoff. While some of the stuff doesn’t quite hold up that way, this match certainly tells the tale more in that vein.

Today’s Match of the Day comes from the January 15, 2001 edition of WCW Monday Nitro, as Kronik (Brian Adams & Bryan Clark) faced the Natural Born Thrillers team of Sean O’Haire & Chuck Palumbo. I believe the wrestlers had just found out about the news that WCW was being sold a few days earlier and you can absolutely tell that these four were working for their jobs. There’s not a guy in this match that was under 6’5 and 260 pounds, yet you had guys busting out moves like the Tiger Mask corner flip, the old Cactus Jack somersault dive off of the apron, gorgeous dropkicks, and more ridiculousness. In general, this might be the hardest either Clark or Adams EVER worked in a wrestling match.  It’s eight minutes of heavyweight dynamite!

Of course, leave it to WCW’s incompetence to miss the finish. Instead of keeping it on the ring for the Seanton Bomb, we get a quick clip to the outside to see Stasiak and Jindrak kicking a dude. Sigh.
