5/11 Match of the Day: 1-2-3 Kid vs Bam Bam Bigelow

by on May 11, 2011

Today’s Match of the Day was originally going to be a match from Fight Sports Midwest to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the second and final show of FSM, but for some reason, despite us running ridiculous dream matches, there’s not a lot of pirated FSM stuff on Youtube. Therefore, we go to the January 15, 1995 edition of WWF Action Zone as we present the second 1-2-3 Kid match in two days, this time against Bam Bam Bigelow.

Bigelow eats Kid’s offense so wonderfully. This is the exact opposite of the Ahmed Johnson match from yesterday, where Bigelow is there for Waltman every step of the way, including leaning RIGHT into a great baseball slide early on. Kid reciprocates in kind, including a RIDICULOUS bump over the top rope as Bigelow began his heat.  There’s a kick exchange midway through the match that you’d expect out of a junior heavyweight match from ROH or Evolve, not a 1995 WWF match with a 350-pounder. It was weird to see Bigelow bust out Lex Luger’s finisher (the Rack) while Lex was still a top guy in the WWF, and more so follow up by using a headlock into a bodypress (which looked way more like he forced Kid to pick him up just to crumble underneath him). Overall, a super high-impact match for the WWF at the time.
