Live Results: Chikara King of Trios 2011 Night 1 (FULL RESULTS & DETAILS)

by on April 15, 2011

Welcome to our live King of Trios coverage for Night 1 of the 2011 Chikara super-event! Tonight, stars like the 1-2-3 Kid, Great Sasuke, Mike Quackenbush, Amazing Red and more will grace the Chikara ring in the first round of the coveted six-man tag team tournament! Throughout the night, just click under the cut and refresh the page as the results and notes come in from our road correspondent, Ben Pasco!

(Note: we should have live notes DURING the matches now, so refresh often because as soon as Ben sends a text, I post it.)

PRE SHOW NOTES:
-There’s a card by the door for anyone to write their memories for Larry Sweeney.
-Ben says there’s nothing else of much note out before the show that you wouldn’t normally see before a Chikara event.
-10 for ’11 class member Tripp Cassidy has been spotted working security. I understand he drove over twelve hours just for the chance to be seen, so I’d personally like to show praise for his dedication to making something of his career.
-Due to technical difficulties, the pre-show on the Chikara UStream channel was scrapped. (UPDATE: Looks like it went back up as I typed that.)
-A Larry Sweeney tribute video aired on the big screen before the show began.

1) The Osirian Portal (Ophidian/Hieracon/Amasis) d. 3.OLE! (El Generico & 3.0)
Everyone is wearing pink armbands in tribute to Larry Sweeney.
They just did a dance-off to the Macarena.
-Portal win. “Awesome match”, says Ben.
Ben Note: He said there’s now a camera feed airing the show on the building’s big screen. They might be testing something out to see if they could stream within for future use online. Who knows…

2)  F.I.S.T. (Icarus/Chuck Taylor/Johnny Gargano) d. Team Australia (Tama Williams/Percy/Kabel)
-The masked Australian is “a giant”. Ben said he’s at least 6’5ish, but probably bigger.
-Kabel is the masked giant. Tama Williams (the dark-skinned member) is “pretty good”, says Ben. UPDATE: “Tama rules!” – Ben.
-FIST wins. Ben liked Team Australia and thought Tama had lots of fire.

3. Bruderschaft des Kreuzes (Tim Donst/Delirious/Jakob Hammermeier) d. Da Soul Touchaz (Willie Richardson/Acid Jaz/Marshe Rockett)
-“Jakob is amazing” – Ben. Hammermeier did his team’s introduction, then ran to the curtain and came out with them.
-Jakob is dressed as C-Red. He claimed his name tonight is “War Steven”.
-Donst has a captain’s C sewn into his gear.
-Hammermeier is doing lots of Bobby Heenan schtick in the bout.
-Swiss Mist was busted out.
-Ben just said Donst is untying people’s shoes under the guardrail at ringside. I assume he got laid out on the floor.
-BDK win via Tursas interference. Postmatch, the Spectral Envoy come out to confront Delirious, then everyone brawls to the locker room (note: Delirious did NOT attack Hallowicked).

4.  Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw/Manami Toyota d. The SAT (Red & The Maximos)
Ben said the Maximos look physically how you’d expect and he can’t tell which one is Wil.
-Red & Quack “look rad together”.
-Red’s stealing the show, says young Benjamin.
-“HOLY F*CK Quack almost died on a reverse tombstone” – Ben’s text, edited for grammar.
-The match is being compared to a “good 2002 sprint’ and Ben said it’s “a Maximos match in a good way”.
-Quack hit the ’69 Special and Jigsaw followed with a top rope elbow for a fitting tribute to Larry Sweeney and the victory! Ben absolutely loved it.
-The crowd chants “SAT”. It looks like the Maximos might be hot again. Wow.

INTERMISSION TIME! Go turn your TV to “Lemonade Mouth” on the Disney Channel…best Disney original movie in years! (Editor’s note from Tom.)

Intermission is going long. Luminaries in the house include Rob Naylor, George Mayfield, and the wolf on Ben’s shirt. “Awesome show so far”, says Ben.

5. Team Dragon Gate (Super Shisa/Akira Tozawa/Kagetora) d. The Spectral Envoy (Hallowicked/Frightmare/UltraMantis Black)
-Envoy is super, super-over. Most over act on the show so far.
-Tozawa is bearded.
-Ben also wanted to publicly applaud the little kids behind him for being hilarious all night so far.
-As expected, Tozawa is impressing greatly live with his great charisma.
-Dragon Gate wins when Super Shisa hit the Code Red. Tozawa was the standout of the bout, but all three got over huge.

6. Team Osaka Pro (Atsushi Kotoge/Daisuke Harada/Ultimate Spider, Jr.) d. The Throwbacks (Dasher Hatfield/Sugar Dunkerton) with Matt Classic
-Random note from Dr. Keith: BRIAN XL IS IN THE BUILDING!
-Osaka Pro got “Welcome Back” chants.
-Lots of Chikara shenanigans. Sugar Dunkerton just got a technical foul for trash talking. Ultimate Spider is trapping the Throwbacks with invisible webs. Since he’s a spider, you see.
-The story of the match is Sugar Dunkerton continually screwing things up and Matt Classic disapproving since he wants his wrestling to be serious business.
-“This match is the definition of fun” – Ben.
-Osaka Pro wins. Matt Classic got upset during the match, ditched his team, and did stairwalks until the closing bell. (EDIT: Classic was the one who got pinned, so I guess he stopped RIGHT BEFORE the bell.)

7.  The Colony (Fire Ant/Soldier Ant/Green Ant) d. Sinn “Kizarny” Bodhi & The Batiri (Obariyon/Kodama)
-“Kizarny looks creepy.” (FYI: no one in the crowd knows about the controversial line that Bodhi said on the pre-show, where he said, “There’s benefits to being on the good or bad side of bipolar”, then adjusted his tie like a noose.)
-Kobald has new gear that looks a lot better than the old stuff he was wearing. #JoanRivers
-The crowd’s come down a bit from the previous match (Ben says it’s no diss towards this match; the crowd just got VERY into the previous bout).
-The Batiri keep mentioning this Craigslist ad. Kids are screaming “GO BACK TO CRAIGSLIST!” at the Batiri.
-The Colony win. Live, the feeling seems to be in the crowd that we’re getting a Portal/Colony final.

The raffle winners got booed. 😦

8. Team Michinoku Pro (Great Sasuke/Dick Togo/Jinsei Shinzaki) d. Team Minnesota (1-2-3 Kid/Arik Cannon/Darin Corbin)
-It’s official: the 1-2-3 Kid is CLEAN-SHAVEN! Bryce Remsburg is noticeably marking out as the fans freak out over the 1-2-3 Kid theme song. Waltman’s got a HUGE smile on his face.
-The marking out continues for Hakushi. The crowd is PUMPED. Ben’s making this sound epic.
-1-2-3 Kid/Hakushi STAREDOWN!
-The 1-2-3 Kid started crying. This is an incredible moment.
-…and the match starts NOW!
-Sasuke’s doing SLO-MO WRESTLING with Darin Corbin! Kid’s cracking up and Hakushi’s not impressed!
-Kid & Hakushi are in the ring now!
-Waltman’s moving like he’s in his 20’s. Crowd chants “You’ve Still Got It”.
-The crowd is “collectively expressing child-like levels of joy”.
-Huge pop when Shinzaki stole the Bronco Buster back (he did it to Kid in the Summerslam match).
-Dick Togo is looking incredible as well.
-Cannon is blasting anyone in the face who comes near him with stiff forearms and his signature punches
-TOPE CON HILO from the Kid!
-Sasuke is NUTS! He just busted out a tope to the floor, ONTO THE FLOOR! No one caught him! Everyone moved!
-Michinoku Pro won with the senton from Dick Togo off of the top!
-“Childhood relived” – Ben
-Standing ovation for the match!
-Waltman is visibly moved by the love shown by the crowd.
